Talking to Paul Wells was the best thing happened on that day! I read Wells's book for my dissertation therefore I have been thrilled to meet him since I was informed that he would be in MAF as well. It was scary to start a conversation but he is a friendly gentleman and gave me so many useful comments and feedbacks for my dissertation. This literally encourages me to talk to more professional because they are not as intimidating as they sound and this also inform me the importance of networking in the industry. It will be a waste if I do not expand my network and keep very work to myself instead of showing it to the world. More documentation of the conversation with Paul Wells will be in the studio practice blog!
Day 3 was also amazing and full of interesting shorts. Here are some mentionable ones.
-Unique topic, nicely animated and have a american-cartoon style. I love the storyboard and the climax in the story which could really pull audience together. The 2D-3D aesthetic also add a lot of textures and realistic features that increases reliability .
THE WRONG END OF THE STICK - trailer 2016 from Terri Matthews on Vimeo.Amazing 3D animation! The character resemble to Wall-E which tell the story before it starts. A bit confusing but the relationship between the robot and the humming bird is nicely built up.
I absolutely love this animation. I like the simplicity and how the story is cleverly drawn. There are no exceed drawings and develop every scene using a line. I really want to learn this style and I think it will become popular in HongKong!
ONCE UPON A LINE by Alicja Jasina - Trailer from Alicja Jasina on Vimeo.
Mirrors (TRAILER) from Mirrors Movie on Vimeo.
Ceci n'est pas une Animation Trailer from Federico Kempke on Vimeo.
The Race - Trailer from Jodie Haslam on Vimeo.
Trailer - CHARLIE ET SES GRANDES DENTS from Valentin Sabin on Vimeo.
At the end we attended the ceremony which invited Barry Purves to give a speech before the awards. He has become my inspiration because of his positive attitude to animation and also his amazing work therefore I am so intrigued by everything he said. So having Purves to wrap up the festival was the best thing I could ever ask and I am extremely glad that I attend MAF this year. I hope my animation could be screened in MAF in the next few years and amaze everyone who come.
